Importance of Mental Health
What is mental health?
Although there is no concise definition, mental health is basically your attitude and approach towards life. Psychological, environmental, genetic or physiological factors have a profound effect on general mental development.
What is a mental illness?
Mental illness interfere with your ability to perform routine tasks, promoting healthy relationships, or deal with anger or stress. It can be classified on the basis of extreme mood swings, irrational or destructive thought patterns and behaviors.
How important is mental health?
Your mental health has a tremendous impact on every aspect of your life.
Self-Image
Good mental health means appreciating your achievements and accept your shortcomings. Mental illness can lead to an inferiority complex, a negative body image and feelings of intense self-loathing, anger, disgust, and useless, which can mutate into extreme depression, psycho-social disorders or eating disorders.
Education
Students with mental problems socially isolate themselves, and the development of anxiety and concentration problems. Good mental health all-round educational experience that provides social and intellectual skills that lead to improved confidence and better grades.
Relationship
Mental health largely contributes human relations functions. Mental illness can hamper even the basic interactions with family, friends and colleagues. Most people who suffer from mental illness find it difficult to build relationships, have problems with commitment or intimacy, and often experience sexual health.
Sleep
Inability to handle stress or anxiety can cause insomnia. Even if you mange to fall asleep, you wake up dozens of times a night with thoughts of what went wrong the day before or how bad tomorrow will be. You can develop serious sleep disorder that makes you tired and less productive.
Food
People with mental disorders are more prone to engage in comfort eating or emotional binges. Finding comfort in food is something we all do from time to time. But with mental illness, it becomes difficult to control yourself. Overeating can cause obesity, that you are the risk of heart disease and diabetes, in addition to creating an unhealthy body image.
Physical health
Your mental state directly affects your body. For example, stress can cause hypertension or stomach ulcers. People who are mentally healthy are at low risk for health complications.
So make a conscious effort to improve and maintain your sanity.
