ABSTRACT

Background: The two most common test to diagnose hearing loss are tuning fork test and Pure tone audiometry. The tuning fork test diagnoses hearing loss and  the type of hearing loss. The pure tone audiometry is used to determine hearing loss, the type and the level of hearing loss as well as the level. This study aimed to compare the accuracy of  tuning fork test with pure tone audiometry.

Methods: This was analytic study of diagnostic test which took 86 samples. The samples were taken by consecutive sampling. Data was analyzed by the sensitivity test, specificity, positive and negative predictive value, comparing the differences between  tuning  fork  test  to pure tone audiometry (as gold standard) using McNemar test.

Results:The tuning fork test has 87.5% sensitivity, 100% specificity, 100% positive predictive value, 86.36% negative predictive  value, and 93.02% accuracy, p value of McNemar test was 0.125 (not significant, p>0.05).

Conclusion: The result of study showed no significant difference between tuning fork test and pure tone audiometry in determining the types of hearing loss.

ABSTRAK

Latar belakang: Dua cara paling lazim untuk uji pendengaran yaitu tes garpu tala dan audiometri nada murni. Tes garpu tala mendiagnosis kurang pendengaran dan jenisnya. Audiometri nada murni untuk mengetahui kurang pendengaran, jenis dan derajatnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan membandingkan ketepatan diagnosis Tes garpu tala dengan Audiometri nada murni.

Metode: Penelitian analitik terhadap uji diagnostik ini menggunakan 86 sampel secara consecutive. Analisis data menggunakan tes sensitivitas, spesifisitas, nilai prediksi positif dan negatif, serta membandingkan Tes garpu tala dengan Audiometri nada murni sebagai baku emas dengan dengan uji McNemar.

Hasil:  Tes garpu tala mempunyai sensitivitas 87,5%, spesifisitas 100%, nilai prediksi positif 100%, nilai prediksi negatif 86,36%, dan akurasi 93,02%. Nilai p uji McNemar sebesar 0,125 (tidak bermakna,  p>0,05)

Kesimpulan:  Hasil penelitian menunjukan tidak terdapat perbedaan bermakna antara  tes garpu tala dibanding audiometri nada murni dalam penentuan jenis kurang pendengaran.
