ABSTRACT

Background: The cervical and breast cancer are common malignancies in women which cause distress. Beside the high frequency and high mortality, this is also related to women’s function of reproduction, motherhood symbol, sexual maturity and body figure. This study was aimed to compare the depression score between patients with cervical and breast cancer at Kariadi Hospital Semarang.
Methods: This was an analytic study with a cross-sectional design. The 88 subjects from each type of cancer were patients with cervical and breast cancer who fulfilled the inclusion criteria. The data was taken from July to November 2005 in Surgery and Gynaecology Department of Kariadi Hospital Semarang. The depression was scored by Zung Self-rating Depression Scale(ZSDS). The data was analysed by Independent T-test.
Results: There were 31,8% cervical cancer patients with depression; 22,7% mild, 6,8% moderate, and 2,2% severe. There were 40,9% breast cancer patients with depression; 23,9% mild, 12,5% moderate, and 4,5% severe. The mean depression score in patients with cervical cancer was 42,92±11,34, while in breast cancer was 47,76±11,08. T-test analysis of mean depression score in patients with cervical and breast cancer were significantly different (p=0,005).
Conclusion: The mean depression score in patients with breast cancer were significantly higher than cervical cancer.

ABSTRAK

Latar belakang: Kanker serviks uteri dan payudara merupakan keganasan utama tersering pada wanita yang menyebabkan distres. Disamping frekuensi dan mortalitas yang tinggi, kanker serviks dan payudara berhubungan erat dengan kemampuan reproduksi, simbol keibuan, kematangan seksual dan estetika. Penelitian ini untuk membandingkan skor depresi pada penderita kanker serviks uteri dengan penderita kanker payudara .
Metode: Penelitian analitik dengan desain cross-sectional. Subyek penelitian ini 88 orang kanker serviks uteri dan 88 orang kanker payudara yang memenuhi kriteria inklusi. Data diambil selama Juli-November 2005 di Unit Rawat Inap Bagian Bedah dan Ginekologi RSUP Dr. Kariadi Semarang. Depresi diukur dengan Zung Self-Rating Depression Scale (ZSDS). Analisis dilakukan dengan Independent T-test.
Hasil: Pada kanker serviks uteri 31,8% penderita alami depresi; 22,7% depresi ringan, 6,8% sedang dan 2,2% berat. Pada kanker payudara 40,9% alami depresi; 23,9% depresi ringan, 12,5% sedang, dan 4,5% berat. Rerata skor depresi pada penderita kanker serviks uteri adalah 42,92±11,34, sedangkan untuk penderita kanker payudara 47,76±11,08. Hasil analisis Independent T-test terhadap rerata skor depresi pada penderita kanker serviks uteri dan penderita kanker payudara menunjukan perbedaan bermakna (p=0,005).
Simpulan: Rerata skor depresi pada penderita kanker payudara lebih tinggi secara bermakna dibanding kanker serviks uteri.
